Diaconal Program
Track 1 Curriculum


TH 101- Faith & Practice
A foundational course in the Logos House Program of
studies. The candidate will become familiar with the
theological bases of Anglican Faith and Practice through
assigned readings and reflection papers. (3 Credits)

OT 101- Introduction to the Old Testament
A survey ofthe Old Testament and the Apocrypha.The
course will focus on God's actions with 'Israel from the
beginnings up to the coming of Christ. The student will
learn to exegete Scripture using a four-fold approach of:

a] What the text says b] The context in which it was written
c] The history behind the text d] The theological basis. This
course involves considerable reading assignments.  (3 Credits)

NT 101 - Introduction to the New Testament - 

A survey course which provides an introduction to each
book of the New Testament. A study of the Christian
kerygma and its formulation in Acts and st. Paul's epistles is
emphasized. (3 Credits)

AT 101- Intro. to Ascetical Theology


The student will in addition to reading assignments, write
reflection papers on the content of the readings. The student
will be guided in the selection of a personal Spiritual
Director, which is required of all candidates. (3 Credits)

PT 101· Practical Theology   


A course in the practical aspects of parish ministry. The
candidate will work with a Mentor, who will supervise and
confer with him on his parish responsibilities.  (3 Credits)

HO 101 - Introduction to Preaching


The Student will be required to complete reading
assignments, preach four sermons, which will be critiqued,
and write a paper on the Theology of Preaching.  (3 Credits)

LT 101 - The Practice of Liturgy

The candidate will be introduced to the history of the
American Book of Common Prayer and be required to say
Morning and Evening Prayer in both public and private
contexts. Also, the responsibilities of a Deacon in a
liturgical setting, and Canon Law as it applies to the
Diaconate. The candidate's Mentor will be responsible for
certifying his proficiency in reading the Daily Office.  (3 Credits)

CH 101 - AS 101 Outline of Church History

A survey course in the history of the Christian Church from
its origins to the present day, with emphasis on the Anglican
            Church in America.  (3 Credits)

Total credit hours required for the Diaconate - 24

The Certificate of Associate in Theology will be awarded to a
Deacon who completes the above program of studies, and
submits a Research Paper on a subject of his choosing, approved
by the Dean of Studies.
