Priesthood Program Track 2 Curriculum
I. Rule of Life
RL 001- Rule of Life for a Priest of the Church - All Faculty
Above all, the priest must be a man of prayer. Accordingly, each candidate must agree to follow the Rule of Life 'as prescribed by the Traditional Anglican Communion, Diocese of the Northeast. The Rule includes, at a minimum, the practice of reciting at least one of the Daily Offices and making an annual retreat. The candidate should also maintain regular contact with his Spiritual Director.
II. Old Testament
OT 201 - The Pentateuch - Canon Henthorne
A study ofthe first five books of the Bible. The student will become familiar with the Patriarchal history, the Mosaic Covenant and Hebrew Law. (3 Credits)
OT 301 - The Historical Books - Canon Henthorne
Beginning with Joshua, the continuation of the Mosaic Covenant in the History ofIsrael through the Exile and Return. (3 Credits)
OT 401 - The Prophets - Canon Henthorne
A study of the prophetic literature of the Hebrew Bible. The student will gain familiarity with the writings and personalities of the prophets, especially as they relate to the coming of Jesus Christ. (3 Credits) . OT 402 - Psalms & Wisdom Literature - Canon Henthorne
The poetic, literary, and theological nature of these writings and their liturgical use in Temple worship and Christian Liturgy. (3 Credits)
III. New Testament
NT 201 - The Gospels & Acts - Canon Cox
A study of the Synoptic Gospels, the Fourth Gospel, and the early history of the church as recorded in the book of Acts. Issues such as the relationship ofthe Synoptics, the joint authorship of Luke Acts and the special relationship of John's Gospel are among the topics covered. (3 Credits)
NT 301 - The Epistles and Revelation - Canon Cox
The letters of Saint Paul as they relate to the missionary movement and theology of the Early Church. The apocalyptic tradition of writing as reflected in the Revelation ofSt. John the Divine. (3 Credits)
NT 401 - Special Study of Gospels & Epistles - Canon Cox
Under Canon 27, candidates are required to have "special knowledge of one Synoptic Gospel and the Gospel according to Saint John, and of three Epistles, one of which shall be Romans or First Corinthians" This requirement will be satisfied by research papers or special topical papers
approved by the Director of Studies. (3 Credits)
IV. Theology
TH 201 - Christian Apologetics - Canon Henthorne
A study of Christian Apologetics, preparing student to counter the arguments of revisionism and contemporary world views through a solid grounding in Christian Theology and defense of the Faith. (3 Credits)
TH 301 - Dogmatic Theology - Canon Henthorne
An introduction to Dogmatics with special reference to Anglican Dogmatic Theology as the ordered content of orthodox Christian Belief. (3 Credits)
TH 401 - Revealed Theology - Canon Henthorne
A study of revelation in scripture, life of the individual, and the life of the Church, following the thought of Karl Barth, Hans Urs von Balthazar, and others The student will consider the nature of revelation, as that which was previously unknown or incompletely understood, and how revelation informs the Christian message. (3 Credits)
V. Moral Theology
MT 101- Introduction to Christian Ethics & Moral Theology
A study of ethics and ethical questions in the light of Christian self-understanding and theistic world view.

VI. Church History
cn 201 - The Seven Ecumenical Councils - Canon Henthorne The student will gain an understanding of the importance of the Ecumenical Councils from Nicaea I (325) to Nicaea IT (787) in the development of the doctrine and discipline of the Church. This course addresses such issues as how the Thirty-Nine Articles relate to the General Councils. (3 Credits)
CH 301 = AS 301 - History of the Anglican Tradition
A study of the development of the Anglican tradition from its historical 12th to 15th century beginnings to the present day, including the Continuum. (3 Credits) - Canon Cox
CH 401 - History of Christian Missions - Canon Henthorne
A study of missionary movements from the early church to the present, including the church in Asia, and the work of Roland Allen. (3 Credits)
Vll. Liturgics
LIT 201 - Liturgy in the Apostolic Era - Canon Henthorne
A study of liturgical forms and practice from the beginnings of the Christian Church to the Fourth Century. (3 Credits)
LIT 301- Liturgies Eastern & Western - Canon Henthorne The liturgical differences of Rome, Canterbury, and Constantinople from the Middle Ages to the present. (3 Credits)
LIT 401 - Anglican Liturgy - Canons Henthorne & Cox
The course explores the beauty and variety of Anglican liturgical development from the Reformation to the present day, including Sarum antecedents. (3 Credits)
VllI. Practical Theology
PT 201 = AS 401 - Theology in the Parish Setting - Canon Cox
A practicum course which involves continuing to work with a Mentor in the daily activities of a Parish. Expanding on the PT course which the student encountered in the Diaconal program, this course will focus more heavily on the sacramental duties peculiar to the priestly office and the clinical pastoral responsibilities of a priest. (3 Credits)

IX. Homiletics
HO 201 - Preaching in Context - Bishop Marsh
A study of the communication of the earliest Christians

from which we can learn to proclaim the Gospel effectively in our present situations. The nature of oral communications both then and now will be explored and the student will deliver four different sermons, based on assigned texts, and illustrating specific preaching genres. (3 Credits)
X. Ascetical Theology
AT 201- Christian Ascetical Theology - Dr. Corcoran
A study of the life of grace under the Spirit in terms of the discipline and spiritual endeavor required of the Christian believer, with reference to Patristic writings and types of spiritual discipline, both Apostolic and Contemporary. (3 Credits)
XI. Spiritual Direction
SD - 101 - Introduction to Spiritual Direction - Dr. Corcoran In-depth analysis of the relationship in which two human beings are involved with One greater than themselves. This follows five steps: 1] The direction of Conscience and the Pastoral Ministry. 2] The Nature of the Spiritual Dialogue. 3] The Formation of the Spiritual Director. 5] The Psychology of the Directed. (3 Credits)
XII. Electives
Greek 101 - Introduction to Koine - Dr. Corcoran
Familiarity with the Greek Alphabet, syntax and structure to enable the student to read and know the meanings of New Testament Greek words and phrases as they are used in the Scripture, in Liturgy, and in Apostolic texts. (3 Credits)
Latin 101 - Intro. to Ecclesiastical Latin - Mrs. Taniashvili
The use of Latin in Historical and Liturgical texts, especially in Patristics and the antecedents of the Book of Common Prayer. (3 Credits)
Total additional credits required for the Priesthood - 66 The STB Degree [MDiv equivalent] will be awarded to a student who completes the above program of studies in addition to the program' for the Diaconate.
